Little French Key
Hello, friends! I think it's only fitting that I launch the "Maps" side of Maps & Monograms by featuring my favorite place in the world; Honduras. I first visited Honduras in 2007 and I love it so much that I have now been 5 times.
Honduras has 3 bay islands off of its north coast; Roatan, Utila and Guanaja. On my last visit to Roatan, in 2016, I discovered my new favorite place in the world. Just off the coast of Roatan is a small island called Little French Key. Making it an itty bitty island, off the coast of another island... sound remote enough for you?
Imagine a tranquil, freshly raked, white sand beach that is shaded by gorgeous palms and surrounded by clear blue water. That, my friends, is LFK.
Little French Key is a private island just a short ferry ride away from Roatan. When we arrived on the island, we were the first visitors of the day. We were given a private tour of the island where our guide introduced us to various animals the the owners have rescued. We're talking monkeys, jaglions, lion cubs, etc. Like legitimately cool animals.
We got to play with a baby jaglion cub and hold a super cute monkey.
After our introduction, we staked out a cove where we could relax for the remainder of the day. Our spot was perfect! There was a small jetty that blocked the bigger waves from coming in so the kiddos could swim without being swallowed by waves. There were shaded trees for those who wanted to stay out of the sun A table was within wading distance so we could take our yummy libations out into the water.
Our visit to the island included a fabulous lunch and two free alcoholic beverages per person. We also had access to all of their sporting equipment. We kayaked, used the stand up paddle boards and snorkeled the cove. It's hard to say who had more fun, the kids or the grown ups!
My sister-in-law and I even got a pedicure while Ashley and the boys played on the rope swings. This place is truly heaven on Earth. I almost hate telling ya'll about it because I would hate for it to be "discovered".
LFK is a perfect family-friendly destination that our family will keep going back to over the years. Our plan is to visit again in 2018. I can't wait to go back! If you're interested in visiting, go to LittleFrenchKey.com for more information.
