BBQ Chicken Pinwheels

These BBQ Chicken Pinwheels are perfect to munch on during the game!

 

 

 

Hey y'all!  Welcome to the latest installment of Saturday's Snacks!  Each Saturday I'll be sharing a recipe that is perfect for the game.  So far I've shared Chicken & Waffle Sliders, Loaded Baked Potato Dip, Jalapeno Popper Dip, Loaded Tater Tot Skewers and even a fall-inspired Dulce de Leche Cheesecake Dip.

 

I've always been a sucker for a BBQ Chicken Pizza.  I love the combination of the sweet barbecue sauce, the fresh red onion, and sharp cheddar cheese.  For this recipe, I played around with that flavor profile and turned it into a fun pinwheel.  

 

Pinwheels are always a hit at my parties.  They finger foods so they are the perfect food to grab in between plays.  I make a pretty bangin' Ham & Cheese Pretzel Roll Up that inspired this recipe.

 

The pinwheels start with a refrigerated crescent dough.   The sheets that aren't pre-cut into triangles work best, but if you can't find those, you can simply press the seams together to form a solid sheet of dough.

 

 

  

Cover the dough with bbq sauce and then pile on cooked chicken, red onion, sharp cheddar or Monterrey Jack cheese and cilantro.  Tightly roll the dough, the long way, to form the pinwheel.  Use a serrated knife to cut the dough into 12 pinwheels.  

Place the slices onto a greased cookie sheet and bake at 350 for 9-11 minutes or until the top turn golden brown.

 

Ingredients:
1 can refrigerated crescent dough
1 cup cooked chicken, diced (you can use can if that's your thing)
1 cup shredded cheese (cheddar or Monterrey Jack)
1/4 cup bbq sauce
1/4 cup red onion, diced
fresh cilantro (optional)

 

Instructions:
1.  Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
2.  Sprinkle your workspace with a little bit of flour to prevent the dough from sticking.  Roll the dough out, pressing seams together to form a solid sheet.
3.  Spread barbecue sauce evenly over the dough.  Make sure you spread it all the way to the edges.

 

 

 
4.  Add chicken, onion, cheese, and cilantro.

 

 

5.  Roll the dough, the long way.  Make sure you roll it tightly.  Pinch along the seam to seal the dough.
6.  Use a sharp, serrated knife to cut the roll into 12 pieces.
7.  Place the pieces on a greased cooking sheet or cooking stone.  Cook for 9-11 minutes at 350.
